Our Focus

The Blazers is committed to preparing students to be concerned, involved, and contributing members of their communities. Our programs offer a viable, safe, and enhancing alternative to students’ after school hours, and provide opportunities for parental involvement and education. Our training is focused on understanding, developing, and creating the means of community infrastructure sustainability. The Blazers is made of three core programs – Academic Reinvestment, Sports Discipline and Cultural Enrichment. These programs balance the development of mind, body and spirit, individual, family and community. At its core, The Blazers is a Life Mentorship program.

Academic Reinvestment

Academic reinvestment is anchored in providing practical hands-on applications for developing life skills for quality life decisions. Personal and collective mentoring in the academic setting provides literacy enhancement with realistic exposures. Academic, social, cultural, economical, psychological, and community issues are discussed, researched and analyzed. Personal Mentoring, Community Health, Environment and Technology are its core tenants.

Sports Discipline

The Blazers roots are in Sports Discipline, our commitment and understanding of the importance of recreational activities continues. Among values learned are teamwork, respect, sportsmanship, determination, discipline, self esteem and confidence. During practice, a coach is in a position to demonstrate the value of continued focus, delayed gratification and vigorous effort even when it’s hard. In competition, the student can see in real time the positive results of following the coach's instructions.

Cultural Enrichment

A fundamental building block of The Blazers is to assist each student in identifying their cultural connection with their ancestral roots. Appreciate where and how their cultural heritage is being sustained. Develop a historical perspective of cultural elements such as art dance literature, artifacts, foods, dress and other items. The Garifuna Museum is an integral part of our teaching props.
